Summer in Stockholm
I decided to share my favourite things in Stockholm with you. This summer I visited Stockholm which has been on my wish list for years. I felt super lucky to be able to travel and see this wonderful city.
I thought share a few places I enjoyed.
I hope that travelling to Sweden will happen soon : ).
A place to stay
Good deals can be found in the summer as many Swedes leave the city . If you come by train it's super easy to crossover to the hotel we stayed in “The Scandic Continental Hotel” Booking .com gave us a really great deal.
Also the hotel is right in the heart of the city easy access to everywhere.
Places to eat. For a lovely breakfast and yummy cakes.
Shopping
For stationery nerds I recommend the Pen store and the area where this shop is situated is really great for small independent galleries and shops. NB because of the summer many close for vacation. in July
For great books and magazines nerds. Cool vibe with great music many books in English and those really hard to find magazines in Sweden. I recommend Papercut.
For wonderful selection of second hand books I recommend Rönells Antikvariat book store and there are some books in English. They have a great selection of art and design books and fun gifts.
Travel
Download the SL app really handy by time to travel on any mode of transport. Tram, train, bus or, boat .
For Fun
You must visit Gröna lund fun fair. You will find some scary rides I did try out most of them out. However I was too chicken to do the Monster ride.
Museums
I highly recommend booking your visits in advance especially with due too covid rules. There is a limit of the number of people who can visit at one time. Rules are always changing so check before your visit.
I really loved the Photography museum. They used some great sound design along with the displays. The gallery has a great mix of different photography styles.
There is a boat to get there. We decided to walk to the museum but there was a lot of construction going on in the area.
I highly recommend the boat trip. : ).
There are many museums in Stockholm but of you chose one I highly recommend the Vasa Museum and get a sense of the history of Stockholm. You will see a massive ship that sunk in the harbour of Stockholm. There is a lot of background on history on how people lived their lives in the 1600's
For pattern nerds You will love Svenskt Tenn boutique home to the famous designer Josef Frank. They had a wonderful exhibition on when I visited the store and they also showcase current Swedish designers work.
TOP TIP
I would highly recommend a smart phone and QR reader as most things are booked digitally from food in restaurants and events. Sweden is a cashless society so be prepared to pay with your phone or contactless bank card.
