Pattern Play Fun Live workshop. making Swedish Surface patterns

A selection of patterns made at Pattern Play Fun live workshop.

Hello, I have been absent from Instagram again. The past week has been busy for me. I had the pleasure of teaching another Pattern Play Fun workshop to a lovely group of students from different majors, including sciences, graphic design, writing, and social sciences. They came from university based in Duluth, Minnesota, which I discovered that this town is twinned with a town called Växjö, only a 50-minute drive from where I live here in Älmhult.

They have come to spend some time in Scandinavia and learn about the aesthetics of Scandinavian lifestyle and design. They had already spent a lovely time in Denmark and now they are exploring Sweden.

It was lovely to meet their group leader, Alison Aune, who is a painter and full-time Professor of Art Education at the University of Minnesota Duluth. Her work is inspired by Scandinavian patterns and motifs. Alison has heritage from Skåne and has strong ties to Sweden.

Check out @alisonwonderandland lovely artwork on her website. If you are interested in Scandinavian folk art and symbolism, she has a wealth of knowledge on the subject.

Regarding the workshop, we focused on creating Swedish-style pattern tiles using an analog method of drawing on paper.

I then digitised their designs so they could see the finished patterns on a cushion.

It always amazes me how each person can come up with a different concept.

A huge big thank you to @almhultskonstforening (https://www.instagram.com/almhultskonstforening/) and @svkronoberg(https://www.instagram.com/svkronoberg/). Without their help, there would have been no workshop.

If you are local, my Autumn workshops @svkronoberg are now available for booking.
