The tools I use to make greeting card designs

In celebration of National Stationery Week, I thought I would share the tools I use to make my cards, giving a little peek into my workflow. I often show the final product, but there is a lot of time, thought, and care that goes into each image I create.

You don’t need a huge, fancy art studio to design your cards. With imagination and a few tools, you can create greeting card designs.

Here are the tools I use, which I've bought over the years: an iMac, iPad, Logitech mouse, and Canon printer. The apps I use are Procreate, Adobe Fresco, and Photoshop. I use the WeTransfer app on the iPad to deliver files.

iPads are expensive, but the investment is worth it as it allows you to work anywhere. I even had to create a file for my agent on the train to Stockholm recently.

If you don’t have an iPad, you can use your smartphone or a scanner and a laptop. There are free apps like Canva available as well.

Here is my list of tools I use to create a card design.

A4 paper and plain old bic automatic pencil and eraser

Sketch books lots of them I love the Art creation sketchbook by Royal Talens

I have a make shift desk easel a drawing board clip and block of wood. Desk easel is on my shopping list.

My favourite paints are Gansai Tambi watercolours and Caran d'Ache water colour crayons.

Lots of coloured pencils are my other shopping addiction, next to sketchbooks. I love all sorts, even cheap ones from the supermarket.
